An obituary is a summary of someone, typically in a newspaper, upon their death.
Importance on Wikispooks
Obituaries are often a revealing source, especially about characters such asdeep politicians who were assiduous about secrecy during their life. Conversely, deliberate false trails to be left in obituaries, with no threat of contradiction by the deceased. Prior to the advent of the internet and search engines, there was less awareness of how easy it would be to assemble information from different sources, so 20th century obituaries may well be less guarded in their revealing of information that 21st century obituaries.
Francesco Cossiga
Francesco Cossiga was an Italian ex-head of state, who stated about September 11th, 2001 that “all democratic circles in America and of Europe, especially those of the Italian centre-left, now know that the disastrous attack was planned and realized by the American CIA and Mossad with the help of the Zionist world, to place the blame on Arab countries and to persuade the Western powers to intervene in Iraq and Afghanistan.” The Guardian waited until their obituary of him to make the claim that "he was, of course, being ironic".[1]
