Humza Yousaf is a Scottish National Party politician who was elected on 27 March 2023 to be Leader of the Scottish National Party in succession to Nicola Sturgeon.
On 28 March 2023, the Scottish Parliament elected Humza Yousaf as First Minister of Scotland and his name will now be submitted to King Charles III, with a formal session to swear him in expected at the Court of Session in Edinburgh on 29 March 2023.[1]
As Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Humza Yousaf was seen as the establishment candidate in the 2023 Scottish National Party leadership election.[2]
As Transport Secretary he was fined £300 for driving without insurance.[3]
As Justice Secretary he expanded the hate crime law to crack down on "hate speech". This included creating a new offence of "intentionally stirring up hatred".[4]
