On 22 May 2017, a bombing occurred at the Manchester Arena at the end of a concert by the American singer Ariana Grande, killing 22 people and injuring 119. A lone male was reported to have carried out the attack, thought to have been a suicide bombing using an improvised explosive device. Police were called to the scene of the bombing at 22:33 local time, along with medical personnel.[1] The Islamic State later claimed responsibility for the attack.[2] On 23 May 2017, Greater Manchester Police named the suicide bomb suspect as Salman Abedi.[3]

Campaigning for the UK/2017 General Election was suspended.[4] In a message of genuine humanity and compassion to the victims of the Manchester bombing and their families, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said it was a "terrible and traumatic time" and it was important to "come together".[5][6]

SKWAWKBOX posed a series of questions to Prime Minister Theresa May including asking why it took four hours for her to respond to the tragedy.[7]
