Ramón de Miguel y Egea is a Spanish politician and diplomat.[1][2] He was a panelist for the discussion about The Middle East at the 2002 Bilderberg.[3]

Education

De Miguel graduated in Law in 1969 from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and became Assistant Professor of Public International Law.[4]

Career

He entered the diplomatic service in 1973. After working in Africa and in the United States, he was part of the negotiating team for the accession of Spain to the European Union. He then went to the European Commission for ten years where, after working in various roles, was appointed Director General for Energy.

In 1996 was named Secretary of State for the European Union[5] and held that position until 2004.

Since September 2004, de Miguel has been retained as Adviser for International Affairs to the Chairman of Iberdrola. He has also been Chief Operating Officer for International Coordination of Iberdrola, member of the Board of Abengoa Bioenergy and member of the Advisory Boards of ATKearney, Transatlantic Holdings, Climate Change Capital, Scottish Power and Indra, and of the Richardson Center for Global Engagement in Washington DC.[4]

In the period 2014 until 21017 he was Spanish ambassador to France.
