Mark Thomas Esper was the United States secretary of defense under President Donald Trump from 2019 to 2020, and a former U.S. Army officer and miltary industry lobbyist before his appointment.
Career
As Defence Minister, Esper, a former Raytheon lobbyist[1], has pushed for more military spending[2] to face Russia and China, an increased military presence in the Pacific[3], and has promoted a plan to add hundreds of ships to the fleet of the US Navy[4].
