Lucio Caracciolo is an Italian journalist, founder and editor of the Italian geopolitical magazine Limes. He teaches strategic studies at LUISS University in Rome. He attended two Bilderberg meetings, in 2004 and 2018.

Background

Caracciolo was born in Rome on February 7, 1954, the son of economic historian Alberto Caracciolo and legal historian Giuliana D'Amelio.[1] He is grandson of General Mario Caracciolo, baron of Feroleto, descended from a noble Neapolitan family.[2] In an interview, Caracciolo called his "a very normal family of wealthy and far-left intellectuals".[3]

Education

He graduated in philosophy at the Sapienza University of Rome, from 1973 to 1975 he was editor of New Generation, a periodical of the FGCI, the youth organization of the Italian Communist Party.

Career

He later moved to La Repubblica, where he worked from 1976 to 1983 as a political columnist, becoming head of the political editorial office. Since 1979 he has been a professional journalist. He was editor-in-chief of MicrOmega from 1986 to 1995.

He writes foreign policy editorials and comments for the L'Espresso Editorial Group. He wrote several essays, some of which have also been published in other countries.

He directs the geopolitical magazine Limes, which he founded in 1993, and the Eurasian Review of Geopolitics Heartland. He is a member of the Scientific committee of the Italy USA Foundation.[4]

Caracciolo has held various positions as an adjunct professor. He has taught political and economic geography at the University of Roma Tre, holds seminars on geopolitics in various institutions and chairs the masters in geopolitics organized by Italian Society for International Organizations.
