Inés Arrimadas is a Spanish lawyer and politician. Arrimadas attended the Bilderberg for the first time in 2019 when she was leader of the liberal party[astroturfed?] Ciudadanos, and possibly mooted as candidate for Prime Minister.[1] The party had a quick ascent, positioning itself as pro-EU Spanish loyalists against the Catalan independence movement, and a just as quick a descent under her leadership.

Education

Inés Arrimadas grew up as the youngest in a large family in Jerez de la Frontera. She attended a Catholic school and went to Seville at the age of 18, where she studied law and business administration. She spent a semester abroad in Nice as part of the Erasmus program.

Career

After university, she worked for various companies and went to Barcelona in Catalonia. In Barcelona, she first came into contact with the newly founded Ciudadanos party in 2010. She became a member in 2011 and successfully ran for the Parliament of Catalonia in the regional elections of 2012.[2] In June 2015, she was elected leader of the Ciudadanos faction in the Catalan Parliament. Since the Catalan regional elections of 27 September 2015, in which her party won 25 out of 135 seats, she was leader of the opposition, until 2019.

During the Catalonia crisis after the 2017 independence referendum, she was against Catalonia's independence from Spain, on the grounds that Catalonia's future lay in Europe".[3] She accused the independence supporters of forming the "antithesis to Europe" and of having "pulverized" both the regional parliament and the autonomy of Catalonia.[4] In the regional elections of December 2017 to resolve the crisis, she was the top candidate of her party for the presidency of the Catalan government. She led party with the biggest in the newly elected parliament with 37 seats, but had no prospect of being elected regional president in succession to Carles Puigdemont.

In the elections of April 29, 2019 for the Congreso de los Diputados, the lower house of the Cortes (Spain's parliament), she successfully ran as a deputy for Barcelona.[5] She was able to defend her deputy seat in the elections of November 10, 2019, in which, however, Ciudadanos had suffered significant losses overall. In the elections for the new party chairman in March 2020, Arrimadas was able to win with 77% of the votes.[6] In December 2022, she announced that she would no longer run for the presidency at the next election of the party's executive committee in January 2023.[7] Arrimadas retired from politics and started working as a management consultant in the private sector since then.[8]
