Education

He has a degree and doctorate in law from the University of Valencia in 1991.[1]

Career

He has been a professor of law at the University of Valencia and practiced as a lawyer. A member of the Popular Party (PP), he was elected senator in the elections of 1993 for the electoral district of Valencia. He chaired the Internet Committee in the Senate 1998-1999. He was the Spokesman of the Popular Group in the Senate 1999-2003.[2]

In 2003 he resigned his seat in the Senate when he was appointed Minister of Culture, Education and Sport in the Valencian regional government. In 2004 he was appointed Minister of Institutional Relations and Communication, a portfolio that he combined with the spokesperson of the Valencian Government. In 2006 he started to take care of Territory and Housing. In May 2007 he was elected deputy in the Valencian Parliament and became the PP's spokesman in the chamber, but he left his seat to head the PP's list for Valencia in the general elections of March 9.

In 2008 he was elected national deputy for the constituency of Valencia, and after the party congress held in the same city, appointed deputy secretary general of Communication of the PP.

In the 2014 European elections he was appointed number two[3] on the PP list, being elected MEP.

In April 2022 he was appointed Deputy secretary general for Institutional and International Policy of the People's Party by Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

He is also the author of the books "Camisa Blanca" (2011) from the Rufaza Show publishing house, "Tarde de Paseo" (2015) from the Imprenta Romeu Publishing House, "Ellas" (2020) from the Espasa Publishing House, and "El Escaño de Satánano" (2022) ("Not many people know that there are ancient intact burials under the Hall of Sessions of the Congress of Deputies. Spanish politics happens over a cemetery and that explains everything....After several years of health and political crisis, the Deputies do not suspect that, literally under their feet, a gate of hell is about to open."[4]).

His son was a joint administrator for one Gazproms subsidiaries.[5]

Enemies everywhere

In a 2017 interview, Pons claimed reports of political prisoners and political refugees after the 2017 Catalonia independence attempt was "Russian interference" and fake news". "Spain should ask NATO for protection against fake news", because "the extreme left and the extreme right like to misinform the public about what the European Union represents. Europe has enemies within and outside the European Union."[6]
