The Climate Disinformation Coalition is a 35+ organization strong group of NGOs "that are working to limit mis- and disinformation about climate change on social media, primarily by monitoring, targeting, and engaging with the major tech platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google, and pushing for policy reforms at the domestic and international level."[1][2][3][4][5]
It partners with the spooky Institute for Strategic Dialogue.[6]
Censorship strategy
The coalition wants corporate social media to implement the following[7]:
- Establish, disclose, and enforce policies to reduce climate change dis/misinformation.
- Release in full the company’s current labeling, fact-checking, policy review, and algorithmic ranking systems related to climate change disinformation policies.
- Disclose weekly reports on the scale and prevalence of climate change dis/misinformation on the platform and mitigation efforts taken internally.
- Adopt privacy and data protection policies to protect individuals and communities who may be climate dis/misinformation targets.
The last points means hiding information and shadowbanning of contents.
