Puttick has a degree in Human Resource Management and Development. He has worked for the UK embassy for at least 5 years being promoted after working at the European Department of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[2]

Proud member of Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service, currently preparing for my next role as a UK representative to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Originally from the North East of England. I have a broad range of experience and proven record of achievement in both foreign policy work (specialising in Multilateral/UN business) and dealing with Corporate issues (Legal, HR and Finance prior to joining the Foreign Office; Estates, Security and IT since joining). Passionate learner - particularly languages, but also of world history, geopolitics, and the role of institutions like the UN in upholding the Rules Based International System."

Matthew Puttick's removed his IfS reference on his Linkedin in 2018, during the Integrity Initiative/Leak/1, about the time he got replaced by Stefan Kirchner.[3] After this time his role for the II was removed from his page without a trace, similar to Sijbren de Jong and Rianne Siebenga.[4]
He became part of the British support team for the COVID 19-epidemic on the embassy.
