Luigi Caligaris was an Italian officer and politician, one of the founders of Forza Italia and an European parliamentarian.[1].
Military careeer
Caligaris was a cavalry lieutenant who left the Military Academy of Modena in 1953, before attending the UK Staff College of Camberley in 1969. From 1978 to 1982 he was Head of Military Policy of the Defense Staff. During his military career he has distinguished himself for his contribution to the relations and military strategies of Italy in NATO. He was involved in the politically and technically preparation for deployment of US intermediary range nuclear missiles (Euromissiles) in Italy.[2] He was promoted to brigadier general, before taking leave of the army and beginning as an analyst and columnist of international politics and military strategies.
Forza Italia
On January 18, 1994 with Silvio Berlusconi, Tajani, Martino, Valducci and others he is one of the founders of the Forza Italia Political Movement of which he was part of the presidency committee. He was elected European deputy in the 1994 elections for the Forza Italia lists. He was Vice-President of the Delegation to the EU-Malta Joint Parliamentary Committee; member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defense Policy, of the Delegation for relations with the member countries of ASEAN, Southeast Asia and the Republic of Korea, of the Committee on Institutional Affairs. In January 1997 he left Forza Italia in the European Parliament and joined the Group of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party Group, and in 1998 he also left the party and founded the "Liberal Identity" movement[4] and adheres to the Italian Liberal Party . He remained an MEP until 1999.
