Dr Michael J. Scoullos is a Greek academic with an interest in "sustainable development". He worked for the European Environment Agency[1][2] when he attended the 1989 Bilderberg conference.

In 2017, he wrote a study concluding that:

In essence, sustainable development should be firmly recognised as a fundamental core issue that universities need to address by fostering research, spreading knowledge and promoting new approaches to technology, economy and governance and by developing appropriate competences and behavioural models to encourage more globally responsible actions by stakeholders in productive sectors and by all citizens.[3]

Career

From 1992-2018 he represented the European Parliament on the Management Board and the Executive Bureau of the European Environmental Agency (EEA), the lead knowledge hub of the EU on environmental and water issues.[4][5]

As Chairman from 2005 of the Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med) he led and facilitated a series of regional water cooperation mechanisms, processes and projects. He is the founder and Chairman from 1991 of the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE), which is the major environmental NGO platform of the Mediterranean region.[4]

He is also the Secretary General of the Circle of Mediterranean Parliamentarians for Sustainable Development (COMPSUD) that steadily works on Sustainable Development issues.

Since 2011 he is the holder of the UNESCO Chair on Management and Education for Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean.[6]
