He is tied to the Bill Gates network through the Giving Pledge meetings. He is connected to Johns Hopkins University through the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, which was renamed the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on April 20, 2001, in honor of donations of a total of $2.9 billion to Johns Hopkins University over a period of several decades.
