Maureen Sabia is a retired Canadian corporate lawyer and consultant.[1] She attended the 1997 Bilderberg meeting. She is the sister of fellow Bilderberger Michael Sabia.
Education
Maureen is the daughter of Canadian social activist and feminist Laura Sabia. Her brother is former deputy finance minister and CEO Michael Sabia.
Maureen Sabia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from McGill University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto.[2]
Career
A Canadian business leader, since 1986, she has held a variety of board positions. She worked on the board of the Export Development Corp. and was made chair in 1991. She’s also sat on the boards of O&Y Properties Corp., Gulf Canada Resources, Hollinger Inc., Skyjack Inc., and Laurentian General Insurance.[3] Conrad Black's wife, Barbara Amiel, had recommended her as a director of Hollinger Inc. She resigned as an independent director from the board in 2003.[1] She also sat on a number of government and other advisory bodies.[1]
She was Corporate Director and President of her own company, Maureen Sabia International. Her work consisted of assisting business with organizational and strategy issues.[2]
She has also sat on the boards or advisory councils at Brock University, University of Guelph, University of Toronto, Dalhousie University and other post-secondary institutions. For more than 30 years, Sabia sat on Canadian Tire's board, until she retired in 2022[4], "and she's established herself as someone whose life is focused entirely on her business career".[5]
In June 2011, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.[2]
Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged ("my little bible") sits on her bedside table for inspiration.[6]
