Poul Frode Nyboe Andersen was a Danish economist and politician. He was a member of the Trilateral Commission. His daughter is former national bank director Bodil Nyboe Andersen.

Bakground

He was the son of farm owner and agricultural candidate Anders Andersen and his wife Kristine née Nyboe.

Poul Nyboe Andersen became a student from Aarhus Cathedral School in 1932 and in 1939 a master's degree in political science from the University of Copenhagen, with high grades.

Career

He was a journalist at Kristeligt Dagblad 1939-1941.

From 1941 he was a manuductor at the University of Copenhagen and from 1943 a teaching assistant at Aarhus University. He became dr.oecon. in 1946 and then in 1948 docent and from 1950-1971 professor at the Copenhagen Business School. He helped found Krogerup Højskole, where he was a teacher from 1946 to 1961.

He was linked to the liberal party Venstre and in 1968-1971 was Minister of Economy and Minister for Nordic Affairs and European Market Affairs in the Government of Hilmar Baunsgaard and in 1973-1975 Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of Poul Hartling. From 1968-1977 he was a member of Venstre's main board.

Nyboe Andersen was elected to the European Parliament on 18 December 1973, but resigned from the post the very next day when he became a minister.[1]

He was 1966-1968 quaestor of the Carlsberg Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation. In 1976 he became chairman of Andelsbanken's management and held this position until 1981.

In 1938 he married teacher Ditte née Raben, daughter of master painter Emanuel Raben and wife Kathrine née Jeppesen. He is the father of former national bank director Bodil Nyboe Andersen.
