Jørgen Hübertz Schleimann was a librarian, journalist and editor and director of TV 2 Denmark. He was program editor at Radioavisen, a news broadcast every hour on Danmark Radio's radio channels and Denmark's largest news media, from 1967 until 1982. He participated in three Bilderberg meetings as editor (1969,1971,1974) when working in Danmark Radio, and one in 1987 as he became leader of the first non-government TV-channel.[1] He was chairman of the European Movement Denmark from 1997 to 2001.

Career

He had a long career in Danmarks Radio (DR) - from 1967 to 1982 - where he as head of Radioavisen was behind the transition to hourly news. He then became editor-in-chief of Weekendavisen in 1984, where he remained for three years before taking his seat as CEO of TV 2 Denmark from 1987-1992.[1]

As TV 2's first director, it was he who prepared the new TV station for the first broadcast, which on 1 October 1988 broke DR's government monopoly.

Schleimann had great ambitions for the television station. He believed that TV 2 should surpass DR. On TV 2, the board eventually got enough of Schleimann's style, and the pioneer did not get to extend his fixed-term contract, which, also made the program staff quit their jobs.[1]

He was later brought to Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten as editor-in-chief for a short while. But here, too, Schleimann collided with the rest of the management team at the newspaper, and after just three months, it was over.

In the years that followed, Schleimann was a commentator on Berlingske Tidende with, among other things, the EU on the agenda.

After news media

He was chairman of the European Movement Denmark from 1997 to 2001 and a candidate for the European Parliament for the Left Party in 1994 and 1999 and a parliamentary candidate in the 1994 and 1998 elections.
