Nigeria has the 11th largest oil reserves[1] and the 9th largest gas reserves of any nation state, about 3% of total global gas reserves.[2]

The ENaira, a CBDC, was launched to much fanfare, but Nigerians showed little desire to use it.

Growing unrest

General strikes were called in 2023.[3]

In 2024, nationwide protests were violently repressed.[4]
