Portuguese diplomat, politician and corporate lawyer who attended Bilderberg/1997.

Jose Galvao Teles is a lawyer and diplomat.[1] He attended the 1997 Bilderberg meeting.

He founded one of Portugal's largest law firms (by billings), dealing among other thins with privatizations.

Career

He was politically active throughout his life, both before and after the Carnation Revolution on April 25, 1974. In the 1960s he was president of the Catholic University Youth and the National Culture Center. He was, at the end of the same decade, candidate for the National Assembly for the Portuguese Democratic Movement, in the partially free legislative elections of 1969.[2]

He was also a lawyer for political activists against the Salazar dictatorship.

After the revolution of April 25, 1974 was co-founder of the Socialist Left movement (MES)[3], eventually leaving this small party and joining the social-democratic Socialist Party, of which he was in the national leadership until the 1990s.[4]

He was appointed as Portugal's representative to the United Nations in 1975 and 1976, and head of delegation in important political and economic-financial missions.[5] In the 1970s and 80s he was president of the International Tribunal for the trial of The Crimes of Apartheid.[2] From 1996 to 2006 he was a member of the Council of State, under president Jorge Sampaio.
