Official narrative

The Story Of The Man Who Tried To Kill Reagan, John Hinckley Jr.

Hinckley became obsessed with the 1976 film Taxi Driver, in which disturbed protagonist plots to assassinate a presidential candidate. He developed an infatuation with Jodie Foster, who played a sexually trafficked 12-year-old child in the film. When Foster entered Yale University, Hinckley moved to New Haven, Connecticut, for a short time to stalk her. There, he slipped poems and messages under Foster's door, asking for "respect and love".[1]

Failing to develop any meaningful contact with the actress, he fantasized about conducting an aircraft hijacking or committing suicide in front of her to get her attention. Eventually, he settled on a scheme to impress her by assassinating the president, thinking that by achieving a place in history, he would appeal to her as an equal.

Earlier arrest

Hinckley was arrested at the Nashville airport on charges of carrying concealed firearms on Oct. 9 1980 when President Carter was in that city.[2]

Assassination

In March 1981, Hinckley was involved in the assassination of Ronald Reagan but was found not guilty by reason of insanity but was sent for treatment to a Washington hospital.[3]

Motive?

Mark Gorton and Trowbridge Ford suggest that Hinckley's assassination attempt was organised by the Cabal so that Vice president George H. W. Bush could assume full control.[4][5]

"No longer a danger"

In July 2016, ordering his release, US District Judge Paul Friedman said Mr Hinckley no longer posed a danger to himself or others.[3]

Release

Hickley was fully released in 2016 under supervision and was set free in 2018 to go on the Internet and having no supervision in 2022, recording music and giving media interviews.[6]
