Bill Gates-connected AI "expert" who was invited to the 2024 Bilderberg. Shilling for a fantastic future if "policymakers" only hand everything over to AI.

Dr Dario Amodei is a Bill Gates-connected Artificial Intelligence (AI) "expert" who was invited to the 2024 Bilderberg. In October 2024, Amodei published an essay explaining about how AI (or rather, the people controlling the AI program) could "improve" everything if given control. The essay was shilling for a number of Bill Gates's talking points on removing safety regulation on gene editing and drug development, handing central banking over to AI, and "restructuring the brain". People who don't get with the program will somehow be relegated to a "dystopian underclass".

Background

His father, Riccardo Amodei, was a leather craftsman born in Italy. His mother, Elena Engel, a Jewish American born in Chicago, was a project manager for libraries. He is the sister of Daniela Amodei, who started working for OpenAI in 2018 as vice president of safety and policy[1], and left in 2020 to co-found Anthropic with her brother.[2]

Education

His Ph.D. thesis, at Princeton, was on Network-Scale Electrophysiology: Measuring and Understanding the Collective Behavior of Neural Circuits.

Career

From November 2014 until October 2015 he worked at Baidu. After that, he worked at Google.[3] In 2016, Amodei joined the Bill Gates-backed[4] OpenAI.[5]

In 2021, Amodei and his sister Daniela founded Anthropic along with other former senior members of OpenAI.[6] In April 2022, Anthropic announced it had received $580 million in funding,[7] including a $500 million investment from FTX under the leadership of Sam Bankman-Fried,[8][9] later revealed to be a serial fraudster.

In July 2023, Amodei warned a United States Senate judiciary panel of the dangers of AI, including the risks it poses in the development and control of "bioweapons".[10]

In September 2023, Amazon announced an investment of up to $4 billion, followed by $2 billion from Google the following month.[11]

In November 2023, the board of directors of OpenAI approached Amodei about replacing Sam Altman and potentially merging the two startups. Amodei declined both offers.[12]

In November 2024 Anthropic partnered with Palantir and Amazon Web Services received a government contract to provide AI to U.S. intelligence and defense agencies.[13]

In 2025, Time magazine listed Amodei as one of the world's 100 most influential people.[14] Time also included him in its 2023 and 2024 lists of the 100 most influential people in AI.[15][16]

In October 2024, Amodei published an essay named "Machines of Loving Grace", speculating about how AI could "improve" everything if "policymakers" hand it over to AI[17][18]:

  • One concern in both developed and developing world alike is people opting out of AI-enabled benefits (similar to the anti-vaccine movement..)
  • "beyond just the intrinsic time that it takes to run an experiment on humans, actual clinical trials involve a lot of bureaucracy and regulatory requirements"....mRNA vaccines arguably should have been approved in ~2 months."
  • my basic prediction is that AI-enabled biology and medicine will allow us to compress the progress that human biologists would have achieved over the next 50-100 years into 5-10 years.
  • Restructuring the brain sounds hard, but it also seems like a task with high returns to intelligence. Perhaps there is some way to coax the adult brain into an earlier or more plastic state where it can be reshaped.
  • "AI finance ministers and central bankers"- An important question is how to get developing world governments to adopt them while respecting the principle of self-determination
  • Genetic engineering is currently improving many crops even further. Finding even more ways to do this—as well as to make agricultural supply chains even more efficient—could give us an AI-driven second Green Revolution
  • There could end up being bad feedback cycles where, for example, the people who are least able to make good decisions opt out of the very technologies that improve their decision-making abilities, leading to an ever-increasing gap and even creating a dystopian underclass ...This is a difficult problem to solve as I don’t think it is ethically okay to coerce people, but we can at least try to increase people's scientific understanding-and perhaps AI itself can help us with this.
  • My current guess at the best way to do this is via an "entente strategy", in which a coalition of democracies seeks to gain a clear advantage (even just a temporary one) on powerful AI by securing its supply chain, scaling quickly, and blocking or delaying adversaries' access to key resources like chips and semiconductor equipment. This coalition would on one hand use AI to achieve robust military superiority (the stick) while at the same time offering to distribute the benefits of powerful AI (the carrot) to a wider and wider group of countries in exchange for supporting the coalition’s strategy to promote democracy.
  • AI could be used to both aggregate opinions and drive consensus among citizens[19]
