American actor and film producer.

Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio is an American actor and film producer. Known for his work in biopics and period films, DiCaprio is the recipient of numerous accolades, including an Academy Award and three Golden Globe Awards. As of 2019, his films have grossed over $7.2 billion worldwide, and he has been placed eight times in annual rankings of the world's highest-paid actors.

Early Life

DiCaprio's father, underground comix writer George DiCaprio, who played a major role in DiCaprio's early movie career in terms of reviewing scripts, in 1979 co-wrote Neurocomics with psychedelics guru Timothy Leary.

Born in Los Angeles, DiCaprio began his career as in the late 1980s by appearing in television commercials. He was represented by Bob Villard, a popular headshot photographer and manager[1], who was later arrested for child pornography. Villard was accused in 2001 and charged after searches of his home uncovered thousands of photographs of boys in skimpy bathing suits posed in sexually suggestive positions.[2]

In the early 1990s, he had recurring roles in various television shows, such as the sitcom Parenthood, and had his first major film part as author Tobias Wolff in This Boy's Life (1993). At age 19, he received critical acclaim and his first Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for his performance as a developmentally disabled boy in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993). He achieved international stardom with the romances Romeo + Juliet (1996) and Titanic (1997), the highest-grossing film at the time, after which he reduced his workload for a few years. In an attempt to shed his image of a romantic hero, DiCaprio sought roles in other genres, including crime drama in Catch Me If You Can and Gangs of New York (both 2002), which marked the first of his many successful collaborations with director Martin Scorsese.

DiCaprio portrayed Howard Hughes in The Aviator (2004) and received acclaim for his performances in the political thriller Blood Diamond (2006), the crime drama The Departed (2006), and the romantic drama Revolutionary Road (2008). In the following decade, DiCaprio starred in several high-profile directors' projects, including the science fiction thriller Inception (2010), the western Django Unchained (2012), the biopic The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), the survival drama The Revenant (2015)—for which he won an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role—and the comedy-drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), all of which were critical and commercial successes.

In the 1990s DiCaprio led a group called the "Pussy Posse". Mostly made up of other men in their early 20s, the Pussy Posse was known for their rowdy behavior, club hopping, poor tipping practices and a good amount of womanizing.[3]

In 2009, he bought an island, Blackadore Caye, off mainland Belize—on which he is to open an eco-resort.[4] The name of the secluded resort will be “Blackadore Caye, a Restorative Island” which comprises of 68 villas along with a residential villa.[5]

DiCaprio is identified as one of the most active celebrities in the climate change movement. However, his use of private jets and large yachts reveals the hypocrisy and elitism of these activities.[6][7]

During 2003 he started to work closely with the Natural Resources Defense Council, joining the board of trustees no later than January 2004. NRDC receives millions upon millions from foundations as Ford, Rockefeller Foundation Rockefeller, Soros, Hewlett and Packard, and the board also has Laurance Rockefeller, Jr., the son of Laurance Rockefeller. [8]

In 2005 DiCaprio was invited to the very first Clinton Global Initiative. Luckily he was photographed, because his name did not appear on the official list of participants. This list included George Soros and Madeleine Albright, two major pillars of "democracy sponsoring" operations across the globe; Pierre Omidyar, today another chief sponsor of "democracy" across the globe; Condoleezza Rice, Paul Wolfowitz, James Wolfensohn, Rupert Murdoch, Queen Rania of Jordan, Prince Turki al Faisal of Saudi Arabia and countless other elites.[8]

He has also sat on the board of the World Wildlife Fund[9].
