Gustavo Petro is a Colombian economist, politician, former guerrilla fighter and senator of Italian descent, who was elected President of Colombia on 19 June 2022.[1]

Together with Francia Márquez — the Afro-Colombian feminist and land defender who joined his ticket as the Vice Presidential candidate — Gustavo Petro will form the first progressive government in the history of Colombia.
