Jozef Houthuys was president of the Belgian Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (CSC) and deputy general-secretary of the World Confederation of Labour.[1]
Career
Jef Houthuys' career began with the KAJ, of which he became national secretary in 1944. In 1957 he became national secretary of the same federation.
In 1969, Jef Houthuys was elected as the national chairman of the Confederation of Christian Trade Unions, in succession to August Cool. In 1987 he was succeeded by Willy Peirens.
Poupehan
In the 1980s, the media reported that a small group of people in the village of Poupehan regularly met. There the economic recovery policy was set out by four people: Belgian Prime Minister Wilfried Martens, Governor of the National Bank of Belgium Fons Verplaetse, BAC chairman Hubert Detremmerie and trade union leader Jozef Houthuys.
