Not to be confused with Gareth Williams the UK cryptographer who died in suspicious circumstances.

Gareth Wyn Williams, Baron Williams of Mostyn PC QC (5 February 1941 – 20 September 2003) was a Welsh barrister and Labour politician who was Leader of the House of Lords, Lord President of the Council and a member of the UK Cabinet at the time of his sudden death in 2003.

Activities

Williams attended the 2002 Bilderberg and 2003 Bilderberg.

Unexplained Death

The BBC reported that he "collapsed and died suddenly at his home in Gloucestershire" and that "His family are still not sure what caused his death, Lord Williams' private secretary, Chris Jacobs, told reporters."[1] Obituaries in The Guardian[2] and The Independent[3] both mentioned "his unexpected death", The Economist that "he died suddenly"[4], UPI that he "died unexpectedly"[5] and The Scotsman that "no details of what caused his death at the age of 62 were immediately available."[6]

In 2013, Matthew Seward still had no explanation for Williams' sudden death, but noted that “The Labour party has too often lost major figures at the peak of their careers – from Hugh Gaitskell and Tony Crosland to John Smith and Donald Dewar.” [7]

A 2017 entry in the Dictionary of Welsh Biography stated that he died of a heart attack.[8]
