Lars Evald Christoffer Taxell is a Finnish-Swedish business director, politician and former Chancellor of Åbo Akademi University. In Finland, he is known as the gray eminence of Swedish-speaking minority's politics, economics and culture.[1]
At the end of 2009, a newspaper chose him as the third most influential decision-maker in the Finnish economy after Björn Wahlroos and Antti Herlin.[2]

Political career
Taxell served continuously as an MP for the Swedish People's Party of Finland from 1975 to 1991 and as chairman of the party from 1985 to 1990. Taxell served as Minister of Justice from 1979 to 1987 in the governments of Mauno Koivisto and Kalevi Sorsa, after which he was still Minister of Education in the Holker Government from 1987 to 1990. Taxelli's term of office lasted for a continuous period of 4,037 days, or 11 years.
From October 2008, Taxell chaired a committee that prepared the reform of the Finnish Constitution.

Background
Taxell's father, Lars Erik Taxell, has also served as chairman of the Swedish People's Party of Finland. Taxell graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Turku in 1972. He has been married to Rachel Nygård-Taxell since 1974 and has two children.
