Hennecke Graf von Bassowitz is a former German diplomat and Ministerialdirigent in the Foreign Office. He worked as assistant to Walter Scheel when he attended the 1983 Bilderberg.[1]
Career
After studying law, Bassewitz first became a journalist. In 1963 he joined the German Foreign Service and was then employed at the embassies in Kuala Lumpur (1966–1969) and Singapore (1969–1971). He was spokesman for German President Walter Scheel 1974-1976[2], before then working at the embassy in Washington (1976-1979).
From 1979 he was ambassador to Sierra Leone. After working as a section head in the Foreign Office (1982–1985), he was head of the German Information Center (GIC) in New York from 1985 to 1989.[3] In 1989, he was first consul general in Soviet Kiev and became ambassador there with the independence of the Ukraine (1991–1993).[4] He then worked as a sub-department head in the Foreign Office. Most recently, as the successor to Johannes Preisinger, he was Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1997 to 1999.[5] His successor in this office was Hans Jochen Peters.
