Background
Kate Gallego was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Jewish parents. Her parents are originally from the state of Illinois and moved to New Mexico in 1979.[2] She grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Albuquerque Academy there. After graduating from high school, Gallego began studying environmental sciences at Harvard University, where he received a bachelor's degree. In 2004, Kate Gallego moved to Phoenix[4] and initially worked for the Arizona State Department of Tourism. In 2013, she was elected to the Phoenix City Council. She was re-elected in 2017. After then-Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton resigned in 2018 for running for election as Arizona's 9th congressional district representative in the United States House of Representatives, Gallego announced her candidacy for the following mayoral election. She resigned from the city council on August 7, 2018.
