He started working for British American Tobacco in Argentina in 1946. He was Chairman and General Manager for South America 1955-1958, before moving to a marketing post in Chile 1958-1959.
He became personal assistant to the British American Tobacco Director in London 1959-1960, and then worked for the company in Hong Kong 1961-1962.
He was Director of British American Tobacco Group since 1963, on the Chairman’s Policy Committee since 1970, Chairman of the Tobacco Division Board of Manager 1973-1975, before becoming Chairman 1976-1982.
