Baron Miguel António Igrejas Horta e Costa is a Portuguese economist and banker.
Early life
Miguel António Igrejas Horta e Costa graduated in Economics from the Higher Institute of Economic and Financial Sciences, currently ISEG, of the Technical University of Lisbon, and has two postgraduate degrees in Business Organization and Management from at the Management College at the University of Birmingham and at the University of Navarre (AESE).
Career
He began his professional life with an internship at the then Banco Português do Atlântico and in 1972 joined CTT as an organization technician.
In 1976, the then Secretary of State for Finance, Sousa-Franco, invited him to be an assistant, a 6-month experience that put him in contact with the country's governance.
After being in charge of various functions in the direction of CTT/TLP (the postal service and postal bank), he assumed in 1981, the presidency of Companhia Portuguesa Rádio Marconi, a position he held until 1984, the year in which he became Vice-President of CTT/TLP.
In 1987, after Portugal joined the then EEC, and until 1990, Miguel Horta e Costa performed the functions of Secretary of State for Foreign Trade.

After leaving his post at Portugal Telecom , Miguel Horta e Costa held the position of vice-chairman of the board of directors of the bank Haitong, a position he resigned in May 2016.[2]
