By January 2015 Virginia Roberts Giuffre had referred to Ghislaine as Epstein's "madame" in court,[9] after which US newspapers referred to Ghislaine as "Alleged Epstein madam".[10][11]
In July 2019, Ghislaine Maxwell requested a US court to keep sealed about 2,000 pages of documents from the 2015 lawsuit Virginia Roberts Giuffre v. Ghislaine Maxwell. [15]
Exposure
On 9 July 2019, a few days after the arrest of Jeffrey Epstein, Rolling Stone published an article entitled Who Is British Socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s Longtime Partner? which headlined the claim that "The daughter of a British media mogul, Maxwell is alleged to have served as a “madam” for her billionaire partner".[16]
Disappearance
On 15 August 2015, the Daily Mail reported that Maxwell was "hiding out at a secluded $3M oceanfront property in Manchester-by-the-Sea", Boston, US, after not being seen in public for 3 years.[17] This was later contradicted by a New York Post article which placed her in Los Angeles,[18] but which may have used photoshopped photos.[19]
Opinions
Speaking about her father Robert Maxwell Ghislaine commented in 1997 that "He did not commit suicide. That was just not consistent with his character. I think he was murdered."[20] She was reportedly "quite mad with grief".[21]
