Patrick Calvar is chief of the Directorate General of Internal Security.
"Civil War"
In 2016, Calvar told members of a French parliamentary commission: "We are on the brink of civil war" and claimed that the situation in France was on such a knife edge that it could just take one more major attack of "Islamist terrorism" to lead to a huge right-wing backlash.
Mr Calvar told Le Figaro that he expected such a confrontation to take place. "Even another one or two attacks and it will happen. It therefore behooves us to anticipate and block all these groups."[1]
