Michael Pragnell is a British business executive who was CEO of Syngenta, producing cancer-causing pesticides, who then became chair of the UK Cancer Council. He attended Bilderberg/2001[1], at a time when the chemical industry was lobbying heavily for permission to allow genetically modified food crops. One of the Bilderberg subjects was "What Should Governments Do About Food Quality?"[2]
Career
He worked at First National Bank of Chicago, the textile group Courtaulds, then at Zeneca Group as Head of Department 1986-1992, Executive Director on the Board of Directors in 1990, and then Chief Financial Officer from 1992.[3]
He was appointed Executive Director of AstraZeneca, before becoming CEO of Syngenta in 2000. Syngenta was founded in 2000 by the merger of the agrichemical businesses of Novartis and AstraZeneca. At a time when the GM-industry was spending large sums on a propaganda campaign, Pragnell "expressed disappointment at European reluctance to consume genetically modifed produce".[4] He had the job until 2007.
