Karel Antonius Lucia Maria van Miert was a Belgian politician and European Commissioner for Competition, who then became a well-paid advisor for Goldman Sachs and Eli Lilly and Company. He was mentioned in the Dutroux affair as being present at parties where "14 to 15 year old girls were abused".

Education

He studied at Ghent University (1962–1966) and gained a degree in diplomatic sciences
