Activities
Infosys was founded by seven engineers in Pune, Maharashtra, and registered as Infosys Consultants Private Limited on 2 July 1981. In 1983, it relocated to Bangalore, Karnataka.
Infosys has 82 sales and marketing offices and 123 development centres across the world as of 31 March 2018, with major presence in India, United States, China, Australia, Japan, Middle East and Europe.
In 2019, 60%, 24%, and 3% of its revenues were derived from projects in North America, Europe, and India, respectively. The remaining 13% of revenues were derived from the rest of the world.
In 2022, Infosys's presence in Russia in support of the energy industry there came under scrutiny. The firm, unlike Western firms like Oracle, declined to withdraw from the country despite the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[2]
Ownership
Akshata Murty, wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and daughter of the Indian billionaire N. R. Narayana Murthy, the founder of the technology company Infosys, owns a 0.91% stake—valued at about $900m (£746m) in April 2022—in Infosys, making her one of the wealthiest women in Britain.[3]
Public warning system
On 24 April 2023, Love Britain – Hate Tories tweeted:
- "Yesterday's 'Special Alert' was a disaster which wasted £millions.[5]
- "The UK Government awarded the contract to Fujitsu who subsequently sub-contracted the work to Indian company Infosys.
- "And who owns Infosys?
- "So you can bet we will have many more alerts.. and they will all fail."[6]
Israeli ties
One of the "Independent Directors" of Infosys is Uri Levine[7], who formerly served in the Israeli technology spook outfit Unit 8200.[8]
In May 2023, Infosys announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Israel, to establish and enhance cooperation in industrial research and development. The MoU creates a framework for industrial cooperation between Infosys and Israeli corporations in the emerging technology areas of cloud, information security, sensors, analytics, and sustainability.[9]
