Dr Victor Bulmer-Thomas CMG OBE is a British academic who specialised in Latin America and the Caribbean. He was a director at Chatham House from 2001 until 2006.[1]

Background

His father was the writer, politician and spook Ivor Bulmer-Thomas. Victor studied at New College, Oxford University for his undergraduate degree, where he obtained a first. In 1975 he graduated with a PhD from St Antony's College, Oxford, with a thesis on Costa Rica.

Career

From 1992 to 1998 he was Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at University of London.[1]

From 2001 to 2006 he was Director of Chatham House.[1]

He is the author or editor of some thirty books on the Americas.[2]

He was a non-executive director of the JP Morgan Brazil Investment Trust from 2010 to 2020.[1]
