Serena Stone MBE was the Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs 2018-2019, Jeremy Hunt. Her overseas postings include Kabul, Nairobi and Mogadishu.
Career
Stone joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 2009, after completing a Masters in global politics at the London School of Economics and working in the media and non-governmental organisation sectors.
Stone was in a counter-narcotics team in Afghanistan.[1]
She was part of the team who rebuilt the British embassy in Somalia in April 2013 , and "helping the Somali government to establish stable civil and legal institutions in the country."[1]
In London, Stone performed a range of roles, largely focused on international security and counter-terrorism.[2]
Stone was the Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt 2018-2019. She previously worked for 2 Foreign Secretaries as their Private Secretary with lead responsibility for Africa, Asia, counter-terrorism and consular affairs[2]
By 2023, she had became chargé d’affaires at the UK embassy in Iraq.[3]
