Purging the CIA
Stansfield Turner pressured Ted Shackley to quit the CIA and also removed a lot of top officers from the organisation. Peter Dale Scott suggests that far from limiting the influence of the US deep state, it relocated to offshore milieux - such as Le Cercle and The Safari Club - that were probably more or less unknown to Stansfield Turner, so by the late 1970s, the deep state was more secure than ever.[1]
