Marco Tronchetti Provera is an Italian businessman. He married Cecilia Pirelli, the daughter of the company founder, Leopoldo Pirelli, in 1987, becoming chief executive officer of Pirelli & Co. S.p.A. from 1992 to 2022 and its executive vice chairman since October 20, 2015.[1] He attended the 1993 Bilderberg meeting, and again in 2004 when he was with Telecom Italia.
Education
Provera was born in Milan in 1948. He obtained a degree in Economics and Business administration from the Bocconi University of Milan in 1971.[2]
Marriages
He was previously married to the journalist Letizia Rittatore Vonwiller.[3] He then married Cecilia Pirelli in 1987, with whom he had three children.[3] In December 2001, he married the Tunisian model Afef Jnifen.[4] They announced their divorce in 2018.[3]
Career
He joined the Pirelli Group in 1986. He married Cecilia Pirelli, the daughter of the company founder, Leopoldo Pirelli, in 1987. He took over the operational control of the group in 1992.[5][6]
In 2001, he acquired a controlling stake of Telecom Italia's main holding, became chairman of the company, and attempted to sell it to the Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim.[7]
In 2015, he led the 7-billion dollar takeover of China National Chemical Corporation on Pirelli.[7] He negotiated to remain executive vice-chairman and CEO of the tire company.[8] In May 2022, he stepped down as CEO of Pirelli but remained the executive vice-chairman.[9]
Politics
In the 2013 general elections, he supported and financed the electoral campaign of Mario Monti together with the Agnelli family, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and Diego Della Valle among others.[10][11][12]
