Dame Lynne Owens (born 29 January 1969) is a retired senior law enforcement officer in the United Kingdom. She was Director-General of the National Crime Agency from 2016 to 2021, which made her one of the most senior law enforcement chiefs in the United Kingdom at the time. She was Assistant Commissioner of Central and Territorial Operations with the Metropolitan Police Service from 2010 to 2012, and the Chief Constable of Surrey Police from 2012 to 2015.
On 9 August 2022, The Met tweeted:
Incoming Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has appointed @DameLynneOwens as interim Deputy Commissioner. Sir Mark said: “She is an outstanding leader, who brings immense operational expertise & experience driven by the value of public service.”[1]
Dame Lynne Owens is due to serve a six-month term from September 2022 as Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service. The Home Secretary Priti Patel will run a process in consultation with the Mayor Sadiq Khan and the Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley to appoint a permanent Deputy Commissioner.[2]
