Parler is a social networking service. It has been described as an alternative to Twitter, and like Gab, users include those banned from mainstream social networks or opposing their moderation policies.
The Guardian expose 2020
In July 2020, The Guardian revealed that at least 14 Conservative MPs had joined Parler. They were accused of extremism and included:[1]
Take down 2021
Russiagate accusations tried to link Parler to Russia.[2] After suggestuions that Parler was used to coordinate the 2021 storming of the U.S. Capitol, several companies denied service and Apple and Google removed Parler's mobile app from their stores. Parler went offline entirely from January 10th 2021 on, after Amazon Web Services canceled its hosting services.[3][4][5][6] A total of twenty (or more) of Parler’s vendors and contractors have abandoned their service commitments with the social media firm – pointing to an obvious coordinated racketeering operation behind the scenes designed to put them out of business.[7]
John Matze the CEO started to receive death threats.[8][9] He gets terminated by the board of the company on 29th January, on the initiative of Rebekah Mercer and Dan Bongino.[10][11]
