Van Braam studied at Leiden University, and after military service, started working in an insurance company. After a few years, van Braam left to work in the bank Hollandsche Koopmansbank te Amsterdam. On January 1st, 1963, he started working as personal secretary for Prince Bernhard. Two years later, Queen Juliana made him Royal treasurer. In 1976, she appointed him chamberlain in extraordinary service. He retired in 1979.[3]
