She is the managing director of the opinion poll company Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy (IfD), which is often cited by corporate media. She has admitted to selectively not publishing results she did not like, to influence public opinion.

Background

Renate Köcher studied economics , sociology and journalism in Mainz and Munich. She wrote her diploma thesis under Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann in Mainz. In 1977 she started working as a research assistant at the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy (IfD), where she had previously completed an internship.
