Steve Rotherham (born 4 November 1961) is a British Labour Party politician who is the Member of Parliament for Liverpool Walton and has been the mayor of Liverpool since the Liverpool City Region mayoral election 2017.[1]

Career

Steve Rotherham was born in Liverpool and left school to become a bricklayer, setting up his own company at the age of 22. He completed a Masters in Contemporary Urban Renaissance at Liverpool Hope University and worked as a Business Manager for the Learning and Skills Council. He represented the Fazakerley ward as a councillor on Liverpool City Council and went on to serve as Lord Mayor of Liverpool from 2008 to 2009.

Steve Rotheram has been the MP for Liverpool Walton since the 2010 General Election. As an MP, he campaigned for the release of all government papers relating to the Hillsborough disaster.[2]

Rotheram is Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's Parliamentary Private Secretary. In August 2016, he was selected as Labour candidate for the 2017 Liverpool mayoral election.[3]
