Contents
Background
John C. King graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1923.
Career
King became a vice-president at Johnson and Johnson in charge of Brazil and Argentina. After this, he joined Nelson Rockefeller's Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs (OCIAA). He was stationed in Argentina from 1941 to 1945, where he was engaged in feeding deceptive information to Japanese agents [1], and Guatemala from 1952 to 1953, before the CIA coup that toppled president Arbenz.
"Colonel King's recollection of the events surrounding the death of general Trujillo was very vague." and he had no recollection of the meeting where the provision of sniper rifles were authorized.[2] General Trujillo was former President of the Dominican Republic from February 1930 until his assassination in May 1961.
King advocated assassination of Che Guevara and Fidel and Raul Castro as early as December 11, 1959. He was also the CIA point man of the overthrow of João Goulart, President of Brazil, in 1964, in operation Brother Sam.
Secret declassified documents from the CIA and the White House show the development of the covert political operation that was executed by the Agency during the Chilean presidential election process in 1964. Then, J. C. King recommended that the funds for the campaign be provided with such subtlety that there was no doubt to President Eduardo Frei that they came from the United States, but at the same time allow him to plausibly deny it.
Traces of his interventions are also known in the Dominican Republic in 1957, in Cuba in 1960, in Cyprus between 1973 and 1974 and finally in Liberia between 1974 and 1975.[3]
His departure from the CIA officially happened in 1967, however, declassified secret documents place him years later as a Consultant of the Agency and as a top executive of the transnational Amazonas Natural Drug Company, which was a CIA front used to carry out its actions in Latin America. His last functions are recorded at a date close to his death.[4]
Death
King reportedly died due to a combination of his age and Parkinson's disease in January 1977.
