Eduardo Nicanor Frei Montalva was a Chilean political leader. In his long political career, he was Minister of Public Works, president of his Christian Democratic Party, senator, President of the Senate, and the 27th president of Chile from 1964 to 1970.

Death

Frei Montalva died in 1982[1] apparently following routine surgery.

Questions continue to surround the events that led to his death. There have been accusations that Frei was murdered with small doses of toxic substances. Six suspected assassins were found guilty of murdering Frei in January 2019 and were handed sentences ranging from 3 to 10 years in prison.[2]
