DescriptionAn attempted coup, by some seen as false flag by Putin to lure out generals and double agents within the Russian State, by others as the sign the Russian state will collapse in the 2020s.

On 23 June 2023, the Wagner Group, a Russian private military company, invaded Rostov-on-Don after a period of increasing tensions between the Russian Ministry of Defence and the leader of Wagner. Leader Yevgeny Prigozhin seized military regional headquarters to "confront" military defences ministers, receiving an indirect televised threat from Russian PM Putin[1], starting a 2 to 3 day long military standoff and eerie shutdown of services in Moscow. The suspicious coup attempt of the Russian military apparatus and therefore the invasion culminated in the aerial disaster of Wagner leadership a short time later, which is even disputed by CCM such as the AP.[2][3][4]

Official narrative

A coup was on and Putin is nothing without his murder machines.[5][6]

How Wagner’s Advance Unfolded Within 24 Hours

The Wagner Group was ordered to be integrated into the Russian military in early 2023. Wagner was the only group making significant gains in 2023 in the Special Military Operation.[7] After months of Wagner leadership even calling out the Sepcial Military Operation to be just hoaxes made by the Russian Generals just to play with their tanks, Wagner leadership threatened to turn around to Russia and seize military HQ's.[8] The group - after an alleged strike on their base - invaded Rostov and attempted to drive to and eventually invade Moscow on the 23rd on June, only for leader Yevgeny Prigozhin to announce to suddenly halt what Putin called a "coup attempt". At the end of these 24 hours, Wagner's leadership left - allowedly - for Belarus. The 30 other PMCs in Russia and Ukraine were interestingly not under the scope of the corporate media on this day.[9][10][11][12]

Foreknowledge

Former Russian commander Girkin warned two months before the attack that Wagner was planning some mutiny with the aim of removing Putin from power. Girkin argued Prigozhin needed to be killed as "he has already declared to coup Putin" and this Wagner would attempt it "quickly and radically". [13]

Tactical nukes?

Jacob Dreizin speculated during the event that "Use of tactical nuclear weapons on roads leading to Moscow is possible".[14]

False Flag

Several pundits, including CIA and DIA former officer Rebekah Koffler said "Putin 'orchestrated' the Wagner coup with Prigozhin as a 'classic false flag' to boost recruitment for the army and make West think he is weakened". University of Melbourne professor William Parlett argued Putin tried to lure generals and elite investors to join the "coup" to execute double agents and deep political operatives in Russia by filtering them out, perhaps to stall the war until NATO or the US stops their aid.[15][16]

Aftermath

After Belarussian negotiations, Prigozhin and Wagner soldiers were free to leave for Belarus, have their charges dropped, and still be free to join the Russian or Belarussian army.[17] Putin and Wagner leadership met two days after the "coup" in Putin's office.[18]

Death

According to the Russian Aviation Authority, Russian news agency TASS, and Wagner-aligned Telegram groups on the 23rd of August 2023, Prigozhin his plane shot down north of Moscow. Wagner aligned Telegram groups accused the Russian Military of shooting the plane down. [19][20]
