Anu Tali is an Estonian conductor who the Washington Post named one of the world's "female conductors to watch".[1] She was also selected a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2008.
Career
Anu Tali initially trained as a pianist at the Tallinn Music High School. She then studied piano and conducting at the Estonian Academy of Music in Tallinn from 1991 to 1995 with Roman Matsov, among others. From 1995 she also completed master classes with the conductor Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and in Moscow. From 1998 to 2000 she attended further conducting courses at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Ilya Mussin and Leonid Kortschmar.[2]
With her twin sister Kadri Tali, she founded the Nordic Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Estonian-Finnish Symphony Orchestra) in 1997, which she still conducts today. Her sister is the manager of the orchestra, in which musicians from 15 nations play.[2]
In the summer of 2006 she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival and with a production of Carmen at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.[3]
From 2013 to 2019[4] Anu Tali was Music Director of the Sarasota Orchestra in Sarasota, a US city with a county seat and university in the US state of Florida.[2]
Anu Tali has been the subject of numerous documentaries by international broadcasters such as ARTE, NHK Japan, YLE Finland and Deutsche Welle.[2]
