Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player. He was selected a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2010.
Athletic life
He has been world No. 1 in the ATP rankings a total of 310 weeks – including a record 237 consecutive weeks – and has finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. Federer has won 103 ATP singles titles, the second most of all-time behind Jimmy Connors, including 20 Grand Slam men's singles titles, a record eight Wimbledon titles, and a record six ATP Finals.
COVID-19
On taking a Covid-19 vaccine, Federer said “I am happy to have been able to do it with all the trips I take. Even if I’m staying in Switzerland, I think there are advantages. Above all, I did it for others because I don’t want to give it to anyone else, even if I still remain very careful. We’re very careful with the family and with our friends". Federer took the Pfizer vaccine in 2021.[1]
Federer and Gates
Roger Federer and Bill Gates "have shared a great friendship" for the longest time. If nothing else, that indicates that the WEF's Young Global Leaders - which both are - easily keep in touch with each other.
Gates has played tennis multiple times in partnership with Roger Federer. This has also translated into their philanthropist ventures with both teaming up various times to help the Roger Federer Foundation in its ambitious education projects.[3][4]
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is one of the funding partners of Federer’s foundation.[4]
In a 2021 interview, Bill Gates talked about Roger Federer, agreeing that the world needs more people like him. "In a world of more and more incentives, we need more people who think like Roger: people who start out broad and embrace different experiences and perspectives as they progress."[5]
