Jacques Solvay, a member of the Solvay family, was manager of the large Belgian chemical company Solvay S.A. in the 1970s.

A start had been made. Solway CEO Boël, discussing the issue with Allied's CEO Chester Brown, at first aimed to get two of his American confidants on the board, one from the investment bank Lazard Frères and one from Sullivan and Cromwell. But André Meyer, CEO of Lazard, advised him that industrial experience on the board was indispensable. Chester Brown agreed, an on June 25 1966 Jacques Solway entered the board of Allied Chemical.
