Panayotis (Takis) Lambrias was a Greek journalist[1] and politician and MEP.[2][3] He attended the 1981 Bilderberg meeting.

Education

He was born in 1926 in Athens and studied law at the University of Athens.[4]

Career

He worked as a journalist for various newspapers, and as an editor for Kathimerini he was closely associated with Konstantinos Karamanlis. In 1961 he undertook the creation and publication of the newspaper "Mesimvrini" on behalf of Eleni Vlachou.[5]

In 1968, under the military regime, after publishing an article on homosexuality in ancient Greece, and indirectly comparing the junta to Nazi Germany, he was accused of "insulting the morals of our ancient ancestors". Before the trial, he escaped to Italy by sea. He worked for the BBC and with German radio, he was also involved in translations and editorial activities, and became the editor of the opposition magazine "Greek Report".[6]

From 1974 to 1977, after the end of the junta, he was deputy Minister of State to the prime minister and government spokesman, and from 1984 to 1999 Member of the European Parliament for New Democracy.
